On April 27, Xiaomi group vice president and general manager, Lu Weibing, launched the Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition Bruce Lee Special Edition. Lu Weibing said that the Bruce Less spirit is also the spirit of Redmi products. He said that the enemy is stronger but Redmi was the strongest and every trick is to get rid of the flashy movements and strive to knock down the opponent in the shortest distance. This is the KO spirit of Redmi. Of course, all this was to market its first Redmi gaming smartphone.

Design and Pricing

The Redmi K40 Bruce Lee Special Edition is different from the normal variant, the Redmi K40 Gaming Enhanced Edition. The Bruce Lee Special Edition is heavily customized and even comes with extra accessories in its special packaging. It stands out from the crowd with its bright yellow color and black stripes which were Bruce Lee’s favorite colors. It doesn’t have an RGB back like the ROG Phone 5 but there is a black stripe with a “Bruce Lee King of Kung Fu” inscription on it. The phone has an aluminum frame, a yellow side-mounted power button, and should buttons. Overall, the phone weighs 205 g and is 8.3 mm thick.

The Redmi K40 Bruce Lee Edition comes in one memory variant, 12GB/256GB, which is priced at CNY 2799 ($432). Considering the Black Shark 4 8GB/128GB model goes for $415, the Redmi K40 Bruce Lee Edition is a perfect bargain since you get twice the specs and performance.

Redmi K40 Bruce Lee Special Edition Full Specifications

The Redmi K40 Bruce Lee Special Edition is not just good looks and bright colors, it has killer specs. Although it’s Redmi’s first-ever gaming phone, the company has done a very good job of creating a perfect balance between a stunning design, color combination, and high-end specs. It aimed at mobile gamers as it is a gaming smartphone but I think anyone can use it.

Display

The Redmi K40 Gaming Enhanced Bruce Lee Special Edition has a 6.7 inches Full HD+ AMOLED display. The display has a 2400 x 1080 screen resolution with HDR10+ support, p3 color gamut, and 1.07 billion colors. It has a typical brightness of 500 nits and a peak brightness of 8192 nits. The display offers a 120 Hz screen refresh rate and 480 Hz three-finger touch sampling rate. The fingerprint is side-mounted and not on the display. The phone sports the dot-in design for the front camera and therefore there is a 20 MP selfie camera at the top of the screen. The edges are almost bezel-less with 1.8 mm 3 narrow sides and a 2.7 mm chin at the bottom.

Software, Chipset and AnTuTu Benchmark Score

The Redmi K40 Gaming Enhanced Bruce Lee Special Edition runs on the latest MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11 OS. Under the hood, the Redmi K40 Bruce Lee Special Edition is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 5G (6nm) chipset with an octa-core CPU which can achieve speeds of up to 3 GHz. It uses the ARM G77 MC9 GPU for processing in-game and overall graphics. For memory, the phone comes with 12 GB of RAM paired with 256 GB UFS 3.1 internal storage.

With these hardware and software specifications, the Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition managed to score a total of 724,495 points on the AnTuTu V9 benchmark. This is the score of the regular model and since the Bruce Lee Special Edition model has more RAM and internal storage, we can assume that it scores way more than 724,495 points.

Camera

The main camera of the Redmi K40 Bruce Lee Special Edition has an almost similar design to the Xiaomi Mi 11X which was launched on April 23 in India as an affordable model of the Mi 11 series. This doesn’t come as a surprise as the Xiaomi Mi 11X is just the rebranded version of the Redmi K40.

The phone boasts a triple sensor camera setup at the back. It has a 64 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2 MP depth sensor. Next to the vertical camera module is a cool lightning-shaped LED flash which is probably aimed at showing just how powerful the main camera is.

Battery and Fast Charging

The battery on the Redmi K40 Bruce Lee Special Edition is bigger than that of the Black Shark 4 and the Nubia Red Magic 6. It beats the Red Magic 6 battery capacity by a mere 15 mAh. The Redmi K40 Bruce Lee Special Edition has a 5065 mAh non-removable battery with 67W fast charging support via a USB-C port.

Extra Features

Redmi’s first-ever gaming phone uses a dual stereo speaker system tuned by JBL. This means it supports Hi-Res Audio and Dolby Atmos. It has an exhaustive thermal system which is a combination of graphene, graphite, and vapor chamber cooling. The phone is also IP53 certified which means it is protected from limited dust ingress and from water spray less than 60 degrees from vertical.

Other features include; Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6, Dual Nano SIM 5G, NFC, NavIC, GPS, accelerometer, IR port, gyroscope, and a compass.
