After tough US sanctions against Huawei, a number of Chinese companies jumped in and started developing their own mobile processors. Among them is Oppo, which began its journey into the market of SoCs with its MariSilicon X imaging processor.
It was introduced in December last year and at the moment it has become an exclusive for the flagship Oppo Find X5. At the same time, the company officially announced the development of its own mobile system on a chip.
Now the company continues to develop signal processors (ISP), and next year Oppo should introduce an application processor (AP), built according to the standards of 6-nm or 5-nm process technology from TSMC. And already in 2024, the Chinese giant should bring to market its first full-fledged mobile chip, created using 4-nanometer technology.
Oppo is working hard on top-level mobile processors
In terms of performance, it is unlikely that Oppo chips will be able to challenge solutions from recognized chipmakers. After all, it is very difficult to compete in the development of a flagship chip with giants like Qualcomm and Mediatek, and with zero experience it is almost impossible.
Earlier it was reported that the team involved in the creation of chips from Oppo already has several thousand people, and the annual salary of a number of employees exceeds $1 million.
The Chinese company Oppo, according to network sources, will soon announce a powerful K10 Pro smartphone running on Android 12. The smartphone has already been certified by a number of departments.
The smartphone will run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. The chip combines eight computing cores (one powerful Cortex-X1 core with a frequency of up to 2.84 GHz, three productive Cortex-A78 cores and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores); a graphics accelerator Adreno 660 and Snapdragon X60 5G modem.
The smartphone will include 8/12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a flash drive with a capacity of 128/256 GB. There is a 16-megapixel camera on the front, and a triple camera with 50, 8 and 2 megapixels sensors on the back.
So, we are talking about the presence of a 6.62-inch Full HD + AMOLED display; with a resolution of 1080 × 2400 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Power will be provided by a 5000 mAh battery with support for 80-watt charging.
Also, among other things, an on-screen fingerprint scanner, Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax 2X2 MIMO; and Bluetooth 5.2 adapters, a USB Type-C port and an NFC controller are mentioned. Dimensions – 162.7 × 75.7 × 8.68 mm, weight – 196 g. However, we will for sure discover more details in the few upcoming days.
